DR Congo pledges new funding to expand productive capacities with UNCTAD support

• DR Congo pledges new funding to expand productive capacities with UNCTAD support

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is investing $500,000 in a new partnership with UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to strengthen its productive capacities and advance sustainable economic transformation. The initiative includes analytical research, statistical training and a national gap assessment based on UNCTAD’s Productive Capacities Index. While the country benefits from substantial natural capital, limited digital infrastructure constrains broader development. UNCTAD will support the creation of a holistic, multi-year programme aimed at identifying constraints, enhancing institutional capabilities and guiding structural transformation. The investment signals the nation’s commitment to evidence-based strategies that promote diversification, job creation and long-term resilience.
